Dooinit Festival: Day One
Peace to the world! I’m still in Barcelona but when you will read my article, I will already be in Paris. Months ago, I promoted an event in Rennes (Western France): the Dooinit Festival. This years was the third edition and the festival was divided in two parts: Black movies and shows. Thursday April 5th 2012, I took my sport bag, backpack and laptop and I jumped into a car to Rennes. I used the carpooling with three cool young men (one of them was a big fan of the Wu tang 😉 ). Arrived in the town of Rennes, I had a lunch with one of my car mate and everyone followed his way… I took a bus to l’Antipode (spot where MY rappers were supposed to perform). Buses in Rennes are definitly better than buses in Paris (and it means thousand time better than buses in New York!). I was immediatly very well received by the Dooinit team. They took time to take care of me, to make me feel comfortable. That’s kind of funny because it seems that they have the monopoly in their area concerning US artists but they are so humble, no attitude at all, they help you doing your job as much as they can, and maybe more. Everyone should know that: treat people as you would like to be treated! Oh… Sorry, I write too much and I forget to explain the most important: who is going to perform tonight? J-L and Mic Pro from Paris, Torae from Brooklyn and Lords Of The Underground (LOTUG) from New Jersey and Paris. I remember that I saw a door opened in a corner and I recognized J-L and his team. They were quite surprised of seeing me here! It was funny 🙂 I entered to “holla” them and we talked but not to much because they needed to stay focus and I have a bad influence on them… I am their troublemaker 🙂 Then P.M, the CEO of Dooinit Festival, guided me to Torae‘s box for my first interview. Torae is a very cool man and he is full of humility. He told that he already knew my friends Laura and Adeline, then he introduced his DJ: DJ Coney Island.
After my interview with Torae, Charly and Sylvain took me to the Lords Of The Underground’s lodge, and guys, trust me, I’ve never had such a cool, funny, crazy and funky interview like that!!! Those rappers are hilarious, professional, clearsighted, bright and totally out of control!!!! I didn’t even need to ask question, they read in my mind! But like Torae, you will have the interview at the next episode…
Now, let’s go to the show! DJ Nels gave us such a good, underground, vibrating music and Bboys from Rennes weren’t afraid to have fun! That’s something I ALMOST never see in Paris… Why are you so scared or so ashamed of dancing and having fun? That’s a show… So what? You have good music, great DJ’s, so why don’t you dance??? JL and Mic Pro opened the ball. I can tell you that they were perfect to perform before the Americans. They gave us “un show de qualité”, an energy and personable stage incredible! JL, Rudy Lapoz’, V.U.L Kappa and DJ Nels showed us that French rap is still in the game. Maybe videos will be better, isn’t it?

It was like if Torae saw our French MC’s on stage and said to himself: “Damn! After what they did, I have to kill everything”. And he killed much more than everything!!!!! Hey Torae, I’m talking to YOU: how can you give energy on stage as if you were 100000 people but you’re infact alone with yout DJ??? I need an explainations! Torae is amazing and I definitly fell in love with him on stage! Two words to define Torae’s show: power and power!!!! Congratulations Torae!

Oh… I forgot to tell you (again)… I loose my mind and everything is uspide down because I want to gve you evry details! Between Mic Pro and Torae, I walked to have a drink and a hand stopped me… It was a friend that I met in Brooklyn in winter 2010! That’s just unbelievable! He is from Rennes and I didn’t know it. It was good to see you buddy!
To close this night:” Here come the Lords, here come the Lords, Here come the Looooooooords!!!!!”

According to that video, I will be short and simple for LOTUG because I could write for hours, pages and pages!
LOTUG is: Twenty years of career, Almost three thousand shows across the world, More power that you will never have in all your life (don’t try, you will die!) I was supposed to stay professional and record properly for you but I am sorry, I couldn’t… When you receive deep, raw, real, pure Hip Hop like we received, you CAN’T stay unsensitive! They exhausted me, I received their strengh and I wasn’t prepared… LOTUG were hysterical, the crowd was hysterical, I was hysterical, even the building was hysterical! Oh My Gosh, they assassinated us! They made us laughing, dancing, screaming, having fun and singing. Everytime I see them on stage, that is just happyness! ! In fifteen years, I wouldn’t be a regular wife and Mom, I want to be like them… Word up!

Incredible, after the show, nobody was tired… How comes? Anyway, LOTUG invited me to follow them three days after in Lyon for “l’Original Festival” with ONYX and M.O.P. Did I go? I’ll give you the answer soo 😉
Well, my first night in Rennes was insane! Paris, you have a serious competition here! They are less than you but they made definitly more noise than you! They dance, they react, they scream, they sing (even when they don’t know the lyrics 😉 )… They have fun fun fun! And you know what? When they see that, artists want to stay on the stage 🙂 . Think about it! Thousand thank you to Dooinit Team, Mic Pro, Torae, LOTUG .
Peace n kiss,
Lya Pouleyy
